Description:
Gooseberries are not commonly available to consumers in the US since they grow in Russia, Poland, Germany and Great Britain. The gooseberry is the 'cousin' of the more commonly known red or black currants. Gooseberries are greenish in color, slightly larger than its cousin the currant and have a tart flavor. Don't be fooled by the "tart" flavor description as in Northern Europe ripe gooseberries are frequently eaten raw, right out of the hand. They also make for a wonderfully flavorful preserve and jelly.
