Ingredients for preparing Rice With Apples:

This recipe is taken from ancient Jewish cookbook and was written in Old Slavonic language.

  • 1 c rice.
  • 3 tb butter or fat.
  • 3 ea average apples.
  • 3 tb raisins.
  • 1/2 ts cinnamon.
  • Salt to taste.
  • Sugar to taste.
  • Lemon zest.
  • Water/wine.

Method:

  • Scald rice with boiling water and cook in hot water with salt and butter.
  • Peel and core apples and cut into 4 parts.
  • Put apples in a melting-pot pour over water or better wine; add cinnamon, sugar, raisins and lemon zest.
  • If apples are very sweet, add lemon slices or lemon juice.
  • When rice is half cooked, add it to apples.
  • Cook on low heat until done.
  • Combine rice with apples carefully and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  • This dish must be sweet.
